BARBERING

What is barbering? It is an entire culture of several generations, but in order to figure it out one must delve into the history of the barber profession and find out how did the first barbershops look like.  The first Company of Barbers was founded in London in 1308. It kept an eye on the development of the entire industry. But back then barbers earned more than surgeons, so that’s why the latter started actively joining the Barbers' Guild. Eventually, surgeons started their own company. However, about two centuries later they reunited with the barbers again. A barber’s symbol was a blue and white pole and the surgeon’s symbol — a red pole. And that’s how the sign of all modern barbershops appeared — a pole with a helix and blue, red and white stripes.
